Himalayas: Lepcha

SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: HIMALAYAS, LEPCHAHigh and deep into the Himalaya Mountains we were introduced to the Lepcha people. The Lepchas, who live in a place found only on God's map, are a beautiful people. Because they live in one of the loveliest spots of God's creation it is no wonder that they compose songs that express their love of a God who is over all of creation. Such is this song. The instruments are indigenous to the Lepcha people and date back to very ancient of times. They are all hand crafted.FOR MORE INFORMATION AND RESOURCES VISIT THE WEBSITE OF HEART SOUNDS INTERNATIONAL AT . . . www.heart-sounds.orgCOPYRIGHT, HEART SOUNDS INTERNATIONAL, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

It's amazing to see this video of my people in You Tube! Thank you Steve/ Chad :) We are the aboriginal inhabitants of present day Sikkim. A recent census records our population to 50,000 in Sikkim - probably more if the Lepcha's in western/south western Bhutan, the Ilam district of Nepal and world wide are accounted for )Our origins are obscure - scholars are divided as to were we come from - but we know where we're all finally headed for :)-Mutachi Rongkup Achuuuuuulayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

I hope you are right monpasang. Sadly, I think these missionaries can most often be viewed as cultural imperialists- taking advantage of poor people with money.

These people are authentic, and there was no money exchanged to have them sing. No fabrication was involved to present them as Christian. Foreign missionaries were not involved with these Lepcha Christians. They came to their faith through other Lepchas, and the ministry with which they are associated is the product of a vision of God given to them that He has many such people of the Himalayas. Although dishonesty has occurred in the name of Christianity, this is not one of them.

i wonder y these ppl are said to be lepcha (original inhabitant of sikkim with an ancient language also written, culture, and at least superficially adopted layer of buddhism) are wearing machine woven fabrics in bhutanese design and sing songs about a creator god that doesnt exist in their pantheon. why does it give me the idea of the pay me money missionary and i will sing ur song example???

Very interesting, especially the instruments and hats. Loved some of the expressions on their faces.
