Sukhoi Su-47 (Su-37) Berkut Supersonic Jet Fighter
The Sukhoi Su-47 Berkut (Russian: Су-47 "Беркут" - golden eagle), also designated S-32 and S-37 during initial development, is an experimental supersonic jet fighter developed by Sukhoi Aviation Corporation. The NATO reporting name for this aircraft is "Firkin". A distinguishing feature of the aircraft is its forward-swept wing, similar to that of the Grumman X-29. Although the Berkut has been referred to as the Su-47 since 2002, suggesting that it is a ready-for-production warplane, it will more likely be heavily redesigned (as part of the Prospective Air Complex for Tactical Air Forces program) before any series production begins. The Su-47 designation may or may not be reused for the PAK FA design.

To yuzuki- seriously I do not know why this aeronautical advance was abandoned by BOTH the US and Russia. This is the one and only demonstrator, and there were no orders. I suspect it has to do with a nasty "divergence" (wing twist) problem that will rip the wings off at high speed for the slightest malfunction. This may make the aircraft too fragile, as practically any damage at all will cause it to self-destruct.

Let me clear this up while we're discussing it. IRAQ DID have WMD's, just ask the Kurds who got gassed, remember? They had stockpiles of chemical artillery shells, we never firgured out why they didn't use them, best theory is that we would have retaliated massively, which we would have of course. Nationalistic morons like yourself are the tru scourge of the earth, you can reason away the deaths of 8 million Russians (Stalin) and still find a way to blame someone else.

This is a really impresive aircraft. I reckon you could take on an F-22 with as few as 40, maybe as few as 30 of these. Their avionics are state of the art for former Soviet nations, and if it were to come to a US - Soviet clash (hopefully not likely nowadays, although you never know) then Sukhoi's could come in handy. They're obviously a generation behind in pilot aids but, honestly, 30 or 40 SU-47's would worry an F-22

cow-50, sued by special forces only, numbering less than what, 25 birds? How long will these last in a highly intense battlezone? Not long, as the poor single pilot tries to make sense of navigation, targeting, weapons selection, evasion, oh yeah, and of dying. Its so impressive the Russians did NOT chose it as their combat helo of choice. nice. I call it, "lunch for an A10" See Russian combat record with helicoptors isn't very good. I suspect that once again, your prized helo will fail the test

LOL you speak of hypocrisy, while Russia has invaded a tiny neighbor isolated from help, without even the pretense of WMD. And sorry pal, your Ka-50 would be toast against an Apache. I've seen the Ka-50 technical specs, it LOOKS impressive, but the first look-first kill avionics title goes to the Apache, never mind battle-tested systems, of which the cow-50 has NONE.

allen1117, do you stroke yourself to sleep dreaming that dream? the Apache heli is not very cutting edge. It would lose badly in a dogfight against the Russian Ka-50. I want to correct you..."Russia doesn't have the hypocrisy" to invade another country that isn't its neighbor by supplying false allegations about WMD (think Iraq) and then say that a country protecting its citizens from genocide is unfair because it might cut off the fat ass american's gasoline feeding tube.

Thor599 SERIOUSLY! Dose anyone want to explain why the fuck we left the forward swept wing with the X-29 and never carried it further to combat aircraft!? It is a good concept!!!! --> Because if the States were to try to match Su-47's flight parameters their effin' wings would fall off (Mach 2.34,2500 kmh/1552 mph)

Why are all of you arguing over a plane that wasn't designed to fight?... SU-47 was designed as a testbed for future designs. The SU-47 itself wasn't designed for any combat.
