I really hate youtubes comment system. Sometimes it gets a comment posted, sometimes it screws you over.Anyway, I'd say thats a deeper way of thinking into it, but I think that both of our explanations would work. Who knows, we may be looking into it way deeper than Peart thought we would. I suppose we'll never know unless he tells us.

Not really Happy---you go and move to Canada. i can assure you there is no room for ebonics or any such nonsense. They speak the queens english and you better smarten up there. No room for tomfoolery.

Bassis is in the right direction. Its not about races. Song was written during cold war period. It critiques a world view that tries to make everyhing equal. Truth is we are not equal. Some people have more abilities than others. But a Marxist-communist view would try to change that by cutting everyone to equal stature. Its a falsehood--gee I hope this election does not produce that effect.

I saw Rush twice - once in 1976 London at the Hammersmith Odeon and in 1978 Dayton. When they played "Trees" in Dayton I was crushed against the barricade getting gassed by the smoke generators. I still remember seeing the silhouette of the trees graphics in the background behind the drummer as the smoke parted and I can breathe again. And, yea, "equal rights" doesn't mean everybody rises. It can also mean the lowest get cut down. A painful lession learned.
