Charlie was hardly anonymous. Bonnie, Elvin, and Charlie were sitting in - nothing planned before everyone took the stage. The show aired in the summer. I don't remember other acts (I might be able to look it up), but there was a 15 minute tribute to Willie Nelson as a songwriter and also as part of the "outlaw" country movement.

This was broadcast in 1978. Dickey Betts did host the show backed by the Great Southern personnel from Atlanta's Burning Down (ABD). Besides this jam, Great Southern performed one song - Good Time Feeling from ABD. There was also another jam that Elvin sang, I forget the song.

More thoughts on this episode. Charlie Daniels was still a year or so away from huge success with the Devil..Georgia. He seems sort of an anonymous sideman on here. I don't think Elvin performed with his band either. There were other guests on the show that filled the time - Pretty sure Genesis with Peter Gabriel was one, can't remember the others. Thanks for the memories, maybe you can post some more.

Its been 30 years since I last saw this. This Midnight Special was hosted by Dickey Betts and Great Southern with Dangerous Dan Toler. Although the details may be a little foggy, I remember being disappointed with this show. I don't think Betts played any material from Great Southern and he had just released Atlanta's Burning Down, which went to nothing on the charts after this. I dont believe Charlie Daniels played or sang anything other than the fiddle on this song and maybe another jam song.

Don't know - wasn't his, but he could make any amp sound good. Of course, he usually used a couple of Marshall 100's.

Killer playing by Dickey! What amp is he playing, I Silver Face Super or Twin?

There is some more, although this is the best. Will try to get it posted in a week or so...
