SelectPlusScouts Hold Vigil for Tornado Victims, HeroesScouts Hold Vigil for Tornado Victims, HeroesThe Associated PressDozens of scouts and others gathered for a flag ceremony and vigil at a World War II monument in Omaha, nebraska, Thursday night to remember the victims of a deadly tornado at a scout ranch and pay tribute to those who helped in the aftermath. (June 12)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Omaha, NE((Boys hugging))Following a deadly storm, Boy Scouts are overwhelmed with emotion. They were attending a leadership conference in Little Sioux, Iowa, Wednesday evening when a killer tornado touched down.((Zach Khan SOT: It was scary. First we were just outside having some fun looking at the thunderstorms. It was like a really cool light show and then we started hearing the sirens.//Chris Jones SOT: All hell broke lose. I kid you not))The twister...packing 145 mile an hour winds.. slammed their campsite...Demolishing tents set up outside and destroying what was supposed to be their indoor safe haven.((Jeff Baldwin/Scout Leader SOT: It is absolutely amazing when you look at that building that there were only 4 fatalities. It was a miracle that we didn't have 20 or 30.))((Lighting candles))Troops from the area gathered in Omaha Thursday to remember those who didn't make it through the storm...and to pay tribute to those who helped out in its aftermath.((LLoyd Roitstein, BSA Spokesman): These young men...took control of the situation and they took everything they had learned and made it work))While waiting for the paramedics to arrive...the boys treated bleeding wounds and they started digging the 4 victims out of the debris. At least a dozen people are still in the hospital being treated for everything from bruises to spine and head injuries. ___ ___, The Associated Press
