Hold down the SCAN button while the scanner is powered on. On some, like my SCSI 5P, it has to be set to SCSI ID 0. It does not need to be connected to a computer, though.

Suggestion: try to create an orchestra from scanners and simmilar step-motor or solenoid based hardware :-)
