John Williams did the theme music for NBC Nightly News Beat many many years back. Recently in 2006 end he recorded it afresh with a 90 piece orchestra at the Sony Studios, Culvert City, CA.

This theme is one of the longest-running creations on television and it's among the best of Williams' 70s and 80s work. That NBC re-recorded it instead of replacing it shows they haven't yet lost their minds. I imagine every time someone proposes changing the news theme, they're told to listen to the entire piece of music, and the discussion ends soon after.

the cymbals at 2:40? yeah, he does look a bit scared...but i think the crash of those cymbals were actually supposed to be part of that moment in the score...:)

If he didn't expect to happen, he wouldn't be a good conductor and he wouldn't be doing his job in knowing the music, and likewise neither would the percussionist and they would have started recording the song again so the mistake wasn't in there. But yeah, JW's facial expressions are very amusing. =)
