Darkly Dreaming Dexter

What makes a psychopath? BOOKED experts dissect this question as they deconstruct the unusual story of Dexter Morgan - a serial killer with a conscience who only kills those that "deserve" to die. This 5 minute preview is the first part of one program in a series called BOOKED, an interactive documentary television series that exploits the runaway popularity of forensic crime in popular culture. The series follow real CSI Crime Scene Investigators as they read hot new crime fiction and with their trained and experienced eyes, debate just how accurately the crime and forensic related aspects were depicted..

But he does not do it of he own violation. He does it because Harry told him to. Harry made a kind of artificial conscience.

For all of you who keep saying Dexter doesn't have a conscience, the book clearly states in the blurb "... the only serial killer with a conscience." They don't mean it literally, they are trying to say that rather than the typical murderer, he kills people who deserve it.

They got quite a few things wrong. Like stated here he doesn't have a conscience. It's actually harry's code. The only reason Dex uses harry's code is because he showed him how to kill and not get caught. And if Dex wants to kill and get away with it, harrys code is all he knows that works. If harry wasn't there, dex would kill anyone. Also dex respects harry. Though it is kind of weird that dex's killing doesn't seem to serve a higher need. He seems to kill simply 4 the act.
