Henry Kissinger also won the Nobel Prize as well as orchestrating the anti-democratic military coup in Chile in 1973. Maybe there is a relationship there. Kissinger has also been debunked as a 'pacifist'. He was a war monger through and through. There are too many like him in America. Vietnam used to be the classic example. Now it's Iraq.

You keep on proving you don't know what you're talking about.Friedman's ideas were based on economic models, supported by empiric evidence. He didn't talk or write about superior beings, he wrote on models, empirically substantiated facts or reasonings departing from that or the idea that people pursue their own interests.

This guy Friedman up there. He's not still going on about the pencil, is he?

Friedman and Marx believed their theories were dictated to them by somekind of Superior Being. So they thought they couldn't be wrong. But hell is littered with people like Friedman and Marx. What we need is Humanism and not Monetarism or Communism.

nice, you've just proven you don't understand anything of Friedman at all.i quote:"Friedman inhabited the same world as Marx. It's called UTOPIA. In this world, everybody behaves like a saint or is punished if he/she doesn't."There is no need for saints.Monetarism departs from the rational beings, trying to fullfil their needs/aspirations/ideas the best way possible.Furthermore, Friedman was aware of what a huge change his ideas would be and he proposed many ideas as first, small steps

cromicus.Newton gravitation theory still works.Apples don“t jump out in space?Einstein build on them. But in all respect,i think you are wrong compare this guys.Economics is about solve "problems".Both Keynes and Friedman WORKS in some degree, but conscecenses are different.Friedmans concept is more "Brutal" to people no doubt about that today. But there are no "Pure" Keynesian or Friedmanits today except fore Economic Fundamenalists.William Vickrey nobelpricewinner, mixed them, read him!
cromicus (August 14, 2008 at 12:57 am)
He had great respect for Keynes as any economist should, but that doesn't mean he ultimately agreed with Keynes' theory. Any good scientist would have tremendous respect for Isaac Newton, but nobody actually believes in Newtonian gravitation anymore.

Thanks Prof! Quite correct. In fact, by setting the popperian standards, Economics is not science -the self interest assumption is hardly falsifiable. Nice to hear that Prof. Friedman was not that kind of arrogant intellectual that others become by reading just a couple of books...and on the same theory

Look. It's simple really. Very few people own 90% of the money in the world. They are represented by banks. These people and the banks choose the places that give the best rate of return. Normally, these rates can be found in countries were people work for nothing or cannot fight for their human rights. This is why they go to China (a Communist country!) and they before that to Chile (a fascist country!). They don't go to places where people are organised like the US, UK or Cuba.
