This was the early 1970s, and back then, there really was no experience in dealing with a washed up eight-ton whale on a beach, especially a popular beach like this one. Your comment doesn't make sense.

See my reply above. It was a report from KATU Channel 2 News (Portland, Oregon) in the early 1970s (1970 is the date I've heard).

This was a story done by former KATU Channel 2 News reporter Paul Linnman in the early seventies. It made Linnman a broadcasting legend here in the Northwest and KATU a household name in the northwest.
