tetlama, amongst the flamencos, alot of what Carlos is doing wouldn't be accepted as flamenco even at a base level..the others, technical giants, that you mention could play a simplistic piece showcasing none of their flare/little of their virtuosity but at least it WOULD BE FLAMENCO..keeping strictly to the compass, playing in the correct style you say you are = all basic things..believe me flamenco is not defined by showy playing it is by basic rules Carlos doesn't follow

Don't get me wrong, but Carlos Montoya was nothing near as great as his uncle, Ramon Montoya. He was a flamenco God. Check him out if you can find anything by him. It's mostly on Vinyl what little there is. Diego Del Gastor was another great with totally his own style, especially his Buleria!

Agree with you 100%. Just recently downloaded MP3s from a famous modern flamenco guitarrist... don't want to give the name....and I found the sound must have been electronically processed by adding reverb and possibly also sustain. That makes the classical guitar sound imitating the electric guitar sound, resulting in Music for the Elevator.

Beetledan/Truefan1947. After comparing Paco De Lucia or Sabicas to Montoya, one MAY conclude that Montoya is simply overwhelming us with his "sloppy technique." Those other two are concise, but Montoya has passion for the music--he gets lost in it wonderfully!(which is what music is about--not simply qualified by mathematical precision.) I would much rather watch and listen to Montoya's Flamenco (yes, Flamenco) with his passion and feeling than to the stilted sounds of the "perfectionists."

I'll finish it off in English...easier. Who is that Romero you've been debating about ?
