i cant add sources on my new cydia. when i go to manage it says installed packages and lists them. wtf. please help someone

this might be because your ipod or iphone has and old firmware like 1.1...this cydyia is for 2.0 or higher/... just upgrade your device

can someone please PM me and explain how the hell installer works. I get cydia, im ok with that its easy to use. but Im confused on installer. if i add a source is new stuff supposed to pop up in the games category etc?
