I was United Methodist before becoming Episcopalian. I have seen a few "high churches" in the UMC.Highland Park United Methodist Church (Dallas Area) is very high.I am highly impressed with Rev. Neal's videos and hope he keeps them up.Quick question for Rev. Neal...Do you ever sing the Eucharistic prayer or is it always spoken? Thanks!

Well, there is diversity among UMs. Some are very "low-church" in terms of liturgy. But, they're a minority.

thanks for the information. I never knew this and was greatly shocked as I was only at 2 methodist churches and they did not wear any liturgical garb...I am a Catholic

I admit that I am more "high church" in my celebration style and vestments than about 75% of other UM clergy. Nevertheless most UM clergy, if they were to celebrate and vest as trained in Seminary and as the rubrics of the Book of Worship recommends, would at least: (1) vest in Alb in Stole, (2) stand behind the table facing the congregation, (3) raise their hands in the Sursum Corda, (4) lift the elements in the Anamnesis, and (5) hold their hands out over the elements in the Epeclesis.

Thanks for posting! These days, many/most United Methodist Clergy will wear at least an Alb and Stole during the Eucharist. Some of us - a growing number within the liturgical reform movement - will also wear a Chasuble over the Alb and Stole.. As for the Eucharistic liturgy, it was prayed, without adjustment, from the United Methodist Book of Worship: "Word and Table I." My celebration style is a combination of what I was taught in a UM Seminary and what I learned in an Anglican Monastery.
