This thing suppose to shut your computer down when the power goes down. My APC did not do that...

nice, all UPS's are pretty much the same MOV, SIDACtor's,thermistors, circuit breaker.. and all are microprocessor based, so you should be covered by any manufacture, ONLY one difference battery back up depends on LOAD and Bat.Ah rating other than that, choose a UPS that fits your wallet. of course this is for consumer level so it should cover a single pc or any other consumer electronic.

do you work for Toshiba by any chance?

All home UPS appliances SUCK! Look here, all units made by APC, MGE, TRIPP-LITE, BELKIN, or any manufacturer other than Toshiba are crap and won't last long. My dad can attest to this, as he was a project engineer at MGE UPS Systems- and he can confidently say that all non-Japanese UPS systems will break down about two years after first use. The most reliable solution (albeit expensive) is to buy a 700w 120VAC single-phase Toshiba UPS.

I have an APC smart UPS, but it's an older model. It saved me several times =]
