There is lot of developer activity. Zooming in PDF works and it comes with built in WIFI. But it's not a laptop replacement, it's an e-reader with built in note taking capability and lot's of flexibility (Mobipocket, USB Client and Host, Ethernet, Wifi, CF-Card, SD-Card, synchronization over network, ...) It really matured with new firmware versions...

wow. I was really looking into one of these, mostly just for taking notes in class, but without basics like zooming pdfs etc it doesn't look nearly as full featured as I was thinking it was.I suppose someone could write a linux kernel that could make it surf the internet (does it have wifi?) etc in black and white, then it might be worth the money.

Still too slow and too expensive for me.

I purchased an Iliad Book Edition from iRex in August of 2008. Due to problems with the delivery company, DHL, I never received the product. iRex promised me a refund, but has not done so. At this point, I have neither my money nor the Iliad. iRex is totally ignoring me and does not even reply to emails. My only recourse now is legal action. If you are thinking about purchasing from iRex, you should know that this company no regard for customers after they have your money.

It's not an LCD! That's the point! It's eInk electronic paper. It can be read in sunlight at any angle - just like paper. The Display is half the reason for buying it.

Yea but it'll go down pretty quickly. Its not that amazing really just an lcd screen with e books. I bought an 128mb mp3 player a few years ago for £130 (probably $160/170)

If it is a PDF with a wide enough margin: Yes.
