Darfur in 10 Minutes: An Overview of the Conflict in Sudan
A brief overview of the Darfur conflict from a friend of mine who has spent a considerable amount of time "on the ground" there. The overview describes three of the significant "drivers" that explain what is going on in Darfur, but also show why decreasing the misery is so difficult. The three "drivers" are 1) ethnicity, 2) oil (mostly China, in the ongoing "scramble for Africa"), and 3) desertification/climate change.I hope this overview is helpful. Any informative comments are greatly appreciated. As a personal note, with the Darfur hell so centred around oil, I can't help but think of the Iraq hell, that also began in 2003, and has likely resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians—basically folks like you and me.Don't you just dream of a time when enough people actually say, "No"—and it has meaning? Maybe that time is closer than we know.Petewww.petemccormack.comCredits: Some of the stills are from the gifted photographer Ton Koene. www.tonkoene.comThe music is from Dennis Burke, composer on both Uganda Rising and See Grace Fly. www.dennisburkemusic.com

Exaggerating doesn't always help and this reaction that ur looking for from the people just makes everything worse over there, the whole darfur extravaganza is just made up so the big countries could get hold of the oil over there...nothing more. There's no raping going on and no government helping the janjaweed.

Even if it is not as bad as this video makes it look like...-which is an opinion that I don't really share with you- do you really think that people deserve this? If over reacting and exaggerating things is something that will make people react, then let's do it!Congratulations on this video! I think it touches a real side of the Darfur crisis.

the "facts" in this video aren't all true, this video makes it seems SO much worse than it actually is. This is exactly what the media's doing and it's wrong! You need to really do your research before posting something like this up!

I think WE should all do our part to end this horrible thing. I didn't know much about it until my son Krystofer told me to come and check out what is going on, and I did and this is so sad. Thank you krystofer now my family here in Michigan can do something about it too.I love you KrystoferLove cristina (mommy)

& i know that there'r also other countries who dn't want the peace in sudan..supporting the other side of the conflict. so we'r surrounded by enemies from inside & outside the country, the government & others..we africans dn't know how to solve our problems,if we face such problems all what we know to do is to kill & kill because we'r poor & ignorant so we'll never learn how to talk & understand the other..that's a thing that will not change soon..

what i hate is the denial of our governmet of this disaster..am an arab sudnese muslim,i dn't hate other ethnic groups, yes we'r different in culture & may be in relegion but we dn't hate them,we in sudan has no infra structure neither the north or the west or the south.the whole sudan is poor because of this government & the goverments before.many areas of the north is as poor as the west or the south..this government is causing all of this war & poverty & we are doing nothing about it..

Great video but..... the speaker failed to recognize the forth and arguably the most important driver of violence, religion. To ignore or shrug off the religious aspects of the genocide in Darfur is a very ominous sign indeed. If we can acknowledge the mad work being done in the name of religion then maybe we will be one step closer to healing the deepest rifts that divide our world.

Be not ashame for that which you do not know. Once you become aware but then chose to ignore, then shame be on you. So now shame remains to be seen.Side note: Auto Preview when did happen?
