I checked that out and you're right. Pretty sluggish. It only speeds up when there's no baddies on screen. The speccy version was annoying with the black screen change over at first, but you did get used to it and didn't really notice it after a while.

It would be done through Control by making sure you click on Joystick On, or through joystick and mouse configuration and selecting your joystick type after clicking beside 2 Joysticks. You would also need to plug your joystick in before running the emulator. I cant be sure if it will work as Im not able to try it out but I hope it helps and it makes some sense. If it doesn't you can always ask the guys at worldofspectrum(dot)org.

Game controls: Y-P UP & RIGHT, H-ENTER DOWN & LEFT, Q-T UP & LEFT, A-G DOWN & RIGHT, SYM/SPACE JUMP, B-M FIGHT, X-V PICK UP, CAPS/Z DROP, 1-5 SELECT OBJECTS (5 POCKETS), 6/7 USE OBJECT SELECTED, SYM/0 RESTART GAME, SYM/SPACE PAUSE. Hope that helps you out!

I have just dug the manual out and dusted it down. Joystick: Fairlight can be used with Kempston compatible interface joysticks. The usual joystick movements will allow you to guide Isvar around the castle, and the fire button will allow Isvar to fight. All other functions are used by pressing keys as above.
