You don't know what you are telling here...RUF is a manufacturer, he buys the bodyshell of a 997 from porsche and built it up (handmade) with 40% own desinged and produced parts to a RUF rt12.I owned a RUF and in the official car papers was written RUF as manufacturer, not porsche. If you buy an AMG it is still a mercedes. But a RUF is a RUF and not a porsche. But if you have already a porsche, they do also the tuning, then you still have a porsche, tuned by RUF.

997 is the internal code for the car just like E36, E46 etc for the BMW'sA 911 is always a 911, 997 just hints at the model

It's still a 911, 911 is the family name, 997 is the mark (or whatever you call it) name.Porsche 911 911/964/993/996/997Porsche 986 Boxster, Boxster SPorsche 944 S, Turbo, S2 etcPorsche 924 Turbo, S, CS etcCorrect me if im wrong :)
