I've heard countless versions of this aria, and I think Janet Baker's rendition is the best (Kathleen Ferrier is a close 2nd). Baker has the perfect voice for this song. She is a very underrated singer -- one of the best mezzos ever. I highly recommend one of her cd's -- "Arie Amore". If you can find it, buy it!

hehehe I agree, it's hard to mess this one up though I'd say if the singer pushes a little too much, the mood is easily shattered (not the case here), which I have heard done before.
