I beg to differ. Stan Freberg had a bet with Jeno Paulucci (original owner of Jeno's and Chun King) about Freberg's ability to improve Jeno's and Chun King sales through his wacky ads. Freberg's 1988 autobiography has a photo of Paulucci pulling Freberg down La Cienega Blvd. in LA in a rickshaw to pay off that bet. Freberg's problem was that corporate America didn't understand his marketing genius, and often pulled his ads quickly or refused to run them at all (CBS refused to run this ad).

I have been wondering about this great commercial, on and off, for 40 years! A brilliant parody by the great Stan Frieberg. So cool to see Clayton and Jay look as great as they do one more/last time. Hi yo Silver...away!!

I have thought of this commercial for fourty years as one of the funniest commercials ever. But you had to live in the time and seen the endless Lark cigarette commercials "Show Me Your Lark Pack" (to the music of the William Tell overture) that the Jeno's commercial is spoofing. Then to have Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels - in costume - deliver the final spoof-of-a-spoof punchlines was a real hoot.

Stan Freberg at his brilliant best. No wonder Madison avenue hated the guy.
