You will get a much better burn if you use 1 mole of aluminum for every 2 moles of red Iron oxide. Al weighs 27 grams/mole and Fe2O3 weighs 160 grams per mole. Use the Stero Chemistry of the reaction in your favor.

considering the thermite melted though a steel frying pan in like 2 seconds, or less and a steel plate. I would say yes.
