I think people are wrong when they consider Dorothy as a victim of racism. Hollywood and white producers made her a star and a wealthy one. Her downfall was elsewhere. She had a broken heart because of her wrong marriage with a BLACK man, her child born with a brain injury, her alcoholism and her last marriage to a man who spent all her money until she was broke. So, of course, there were racists and times were tough for black but her fall is not only a problem of racism.

True--DB was so free and bold and confident, some folks WAY back in the day thought she should cool down--I remember my grandmother saying how some of the uppity Negores (that was the term we used back then) felt she should be more sedate--can you believe that. During her hey day she was the hottest woman in the entertainment biz!

Great video. When she throws off her fur and starts jammin' to the music,I instantly got a flashback to Anita Baker's Sweet Love video. I guess all the sistahs groove in a similar way,it's in our blood and our hearts.Yep,it was Dorothy and many others who help pave the way for black female artists.
