i think kazan probably used the same method. or something like it. i would be interested to find out how he actually did end up directing this scene. does anyone know of any good documentary on it? maybe i could just check out the interview with marlon brando but if anyone knows of something better please share.

if i was to direct this scene, i'd tell kim hunter to come down the stairs as if she was a mother and Marlon was her son who just came home past curfew, only to find himself locked out by her. I'd tell Marlon to act as if Kim was his mother and to pretend that he just said something that really hurt her feelings and made her cry and now he feels terrible. an extra reason for insecurity could be that, his father abandoned him & he is an only child, so she's basically the only person he's got.
