I've always found this aria somewhat underrated in comparison to Il Duca's other arias.

It's actually il Conte di Mantova not Mantua. . . not to be rude, heaven forbid, just trying to help. . . =)

Yes, as ShawDAMAN says, I couldn't afford it, first of all. The videos are for me a sufficient medium to judge and appreciate such and such performances. Is Pava the one who gives the "best" rendition of the aria for you?

To pvtrizzle-when you actually learn the difference between crooning and real singing, let us know!

if you want to compare the high d in this recording to note sung by pavarotti with falsetto, look into the related videos bar to the right of the video and see "luciano pavarotti hits high f in i puritani" and you can hear a falsetto note by pavarotti. i honestly think that the high d is not falsetto.

no offense, but for all you critic losers who are Pavarotti bashers who say it's falsetto... are wrong, that D is too strong to be falsetto and it's as full as it can get! stop hating on the king!

I love that laugh! Great singing, great scene.
ShawDAMAN (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
By the way, the D at the end does sound far too strong to be falsetto. Just my opinion, I'm no expert-

Not everyone has/had that opportunity. That doesn't mean they can't form a preference based on recordings, as many people have. For crying out loud.
