is this phrase "quadrat im Kreis" common in Germany? In English, it just does not make a lot of sense to say "like a square in a circle." And one dictionary says "anecken" means "scandalize" but a poster here says it means "hit with corners".

Like a square in a circle, I offend over and over again.Well it's.. Pun in a way...PhilosophicallyI think that's the right way to describe it.

"anecken" means to hit something with a corner. Just imagin on a 2D dimension how a square can move inside a circle -> it will hit the circle with one of his corners.

The verb is "anecken" right? What does this mean - some say "scandalize" some say "give offense"? What does "scandalize" have to do with a square in a circle. Is it related to "ecke" for "corner"? And what is a "square in a circle"? Is it what in English we would say "square peg in a round hole"? Is it an idiom?I'm just not sure what the literal meaning, the idiomatic meaning, and so on of the german is of the lines I quoted.

It means that he is like a square in a circle, he hits the circle with his corners. In the song context this means that he gets in conflict with the society because he tries to change things that can't be changed- thats the reason why he doesn't like other people and the sunlight anymore. ...but he begins always form zero and the sun keeps shining.Like it ^^
