Why does alot of people say that Derek isnt so awesome? Isnt he one of the best keyboardplayers around?? He has a cool sound in Planet X, sounds like two keyboardplayers at a time. My question: Isnt he like freaking, fucking super awesome in skills among other keyboard-players???

the chromatic scale is when you play all the notes without skipping. its "unstable" so when you play it fast its give you the felling of "motion"/ endless zigzags. there are ways to use it like the "bebop scale". it's mostly used in jazz.all most all the jazz use it, Charlie Parker("inventor" of the bebop scale) is a good example. all so Bach has a masterpiece named "Chromatic Fantasy". planet x mostly use it in the solos.the song noble savage is a good example. Greg Howe use it allot!!

i am interested in this chromatic scale, having heard lots about it. Can you point out some musical or song-related examples of it.

@"largemoose".. the complex/asymmetric/irregular rhythm are considered as jazz element. and of course if its jazz with funk it cant be prog, but that's not what we talk about.

the chromatic scale played a huge part in jazz, do you know what a "Bebop scales" is?all tho this song is not really "jazzy", allot of they other songs are. as for the bass solo, i just misunderstood you.

"not to mensching the use of the chromatic scale. "And the chromatic scale has what to do with jazz?I also don't hear a chromatic scale in here anywhere, there is a double-diminished scale at one point."Reply by the way, what the bass solo got to do with any thing???"The bass player taking a solo is a fixture of jazz. i.e. It's the most jazzy section. I get the feeling you don't listen to a whole lot of jazz.

"actually its not minimal, the weird time signatures and the complex rhythm's that they using are originally came from jazz."odd time signatures don't "come" from Jazz. They're a fixture in Greek/African music. The rhythms in this song are primarily rock drivin. Or if you want to be more specific, they sound like progressive metal. Fusion is not a sub-genre of prog. It started as simply rock combined with jazz, alot of fusion is progressive.
