IRI's fighters tested successfully 09-20-2007Two fighter planes from the Azarakhsh (Thunder) fighter generation were successfully tested in Tehran at the presence of Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar Thursday morning. The fighter planes, named Sa'qeh (Thunderbolt), are the second type of Azarakhsh fighters. Commander of the Air Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army Brigadier-General Ahmad Mighani said on Thursday that the Air Force has planned to manufacture cutting edge planes. He told IRNA on the sidelines of test-flight of Saegheh jet fighter, he said that the Air Force will manufacture most advanced jet fighters. "We have decided to manufacture all the planes Air Force needs inside the country," he said. He said that the Air Force has made breakthrough in manufacturing airplanes so that "We will make good on backwardness of the past." Mighani said that Saegheh jet fighter is up-to-date in terms of aerodynamic balance and possessing missile and radar system. He dismissed the Western threats to Iran as psychological war saying that they are well aware of Iran's defense capability. The Air Force commander said that Iran has reached self sufficiency in manufacturing advanced hardware "compared with the past which we were dependent on others." He said that the achievements Iran has made in manufacture of jet fighters indicated that the economic sanctions imposed by the enemy in the past 30 years have been ineffective. The commander said that Iran has upgraded range of F-14 airplanes to 1,000 miles boosting capability of the plane to crush the enemy. Meanwhile, Managing Director of Aviation Organization of Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Armed Forces said that test-flight of Saegheh jet fighters is a national pride. "It is a logistic and combat plane with high maneuvering capability and bombardment of close targets," Majid Hedayat said. They were tested by pilots of the Army's air force during a ceremony at Tehran Mehrabad International Airport. The ceremony was attended by head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi as well as a number of other senior officials from Army and Defense Ministry. The planes will officially join Army's air force fleet on September 22 which is celebrated in Iran as the national 'Army Day.' On this day which marks the anniversary of Iraq's imposed war against Iran in 1980, various parts of Iran's armed forces will demonstrate their defense power by going on parade. NUEVO CAZA IRANÍ

funny Saeqeh, Azarakhsh, and Shafaq were built in the 1997-2004but yet all three are classified as a 3rd fighterwhereas the rest of the world is 4.5th to 5th Gen

well sevensickstring i do agree with you but the f-18 isnt all navymany countrys use f-18 in land operation such as spainbut i do agree with you, this plane is a modified f-5in my opinion it is a 3rd generation fighter plane AT BESTthis is clearly a copy of the f-5 but lets not forget many countrys uses f-5, but irans f-5 are out of date with no potential upgrades in its systemturkey and spain have done uprgades making their f-5 impressive in combatthe Azarakhsh is inferior

conceptman08,No its not dude.USA's F22 is a stealth version of the F15.SAEQEH is ground attackJerusalem is in Great Britain.Written in the Bible. Book of Revalation. It describes the second coming of Jesus where he spent time in England.Youve got issues.Iran has over 11,000 missiles together they have the power of over 1 nuclear weapon.Iran doesnt pretend to be aggressive but you jewish filth do.Its no doubt because you proved you were nothing but cowards during WW2

Hey moron. The F22 is nothing like the F-15. Its a quantum leap. I think all the realistic thinking people on this board can realize anything in the Iranian Airforce, including this "plane", will be EASILY blown out of the sky by Isreal, The US, and even other US equipped arab airforces. ALLAH is not in Iran's favor. He has FARSAKEN YOU. Thats why you NEVER won against Iraq. Thats why Isreal is not in a tyrannical arab or persian ruler's hands. Jerusalem is NEVER going to be yours.

Watching you trying to put the Iranian aircraft even in the same ballpark as the U.S. aircraft is a joke and quite entertaining. You want to hate the U.S. so bad that you have obviously lost all sense of rational thought. America jealous of the Iranian aircraft...yeah.

sevensickstrings,Actually yes you do make a new aircraft.By your delusions. An F22 is a modified F15The F20 is not an F5. Its a completly different aircraft.Thats why its called an F20SAEQEH is like a YF 17. The plane before the F18I suggest you deal with it.

On top of all that, the landing gear is clearly designed for land based operations. It is smaller and less rugged than the Hornet, due to the fact that unlike the F-5 this was based on, the Hornet is a NAVAL aircraft. As a redesign of the F-5G/F-20, I can appreciate this plane as a step in the right direction. However, attempting to pass it off as an improvement on the Hornet or as an entirely new design are misleading at best.
