Husaria / The Winged Hussars Vol. II

The mighty Winged - HussarsMusic:Michael Giacchino -- Age Of WarBill Brown -- UFS VanguardKrzesimir Dębski -- Obrona ZbarażaWith the Battle of Lubiszew in 1577 the 'Golden Age' of the husaria began. Until the Battle of Vienna in 1683, the Polish-Lithuanian hussars fought countless actions against a variety of enemies, and rarely lost a battle. In the battles of Lubiszew in 1577, Byczyna (1588), Kokenhausen (1601), Kircholm (1605), Kłuszyn (1610), Trzciana (1629), Chocim (1673) and Lwów (1675), the Polish-Lithuanian hussars proved to be the decisive factor often against overwhelming odds.In all of these battles, they were victorious despite the fact that the hussars often had fewer men than their opponents. In the Battle of Kluszyn, the Russians had 35,000 troops, Crown of Poland only 6,800. However Poland came out of the battle as the victor.More info about the winged hussars: http://husaria1.webpark.pl/ind... http://www.jest.art.pl/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P...

True. After all it was the army of Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the battle of Kircholm. From me, I can add that not all of "Lithuanian" hussars were Lithuanian just as not all soldiers from the Crown were Polish just like You said. And we do have a respect for Lietuva. We fought and died together for few centuries. A fact worthy of remembering. My best wishes to You Zaliakalnis.

Husaria was the best army of Lithuanian and Polish Commonwealth. Please respect older (more then 2000 years in history) brothers in arms. In some battles won by Husaria there were more Poles, in some - Lithuanians. For example the Battle of Kircholm was won mostly by Lithuanians. Most of the hussars were from Grand Duchy of Lithuania, only about 200 were from the Polish Crown (not all necessary Poles) most of them mercenaries or close personal allies of Great Hetman of Lithuania Chodkiewicz.

Just to give a scare to enemy troops, besides hussars and polish noblemen were known in Europe as snobs dandy woren men:-). Anyway they were so religious, but like Polish king Batory wrote in instructions for cavalry equipment, "the wings to scary the enemies in eeryone's discretion". I don't believe you can find cavalry in the history of this plane more effective, beautifull, dangerous, stylish crushing-smushing cavalry than Polish husaria. To be honest:).

"1612" doesn't show the real hussars. First, they weren't idiots to charge on city walls, secondly, they had 4,5 - 5 metre lance, not only 1 metre and the most important thing - there were no hussar banners at Moscow in 1612. They were in 1610, when they beaten 5 times larger army at Kłuszyn. In fact, there is no film showing the real hussars. Sad, they deserve a film great at least as Lord of the Rings...

In 1612 russian mass movement besieged Moscow. Polish units were stationed at Kreml. After long siege and unsuccesfull attempt of breaking, made by reinforcements, polish-lithuanian starving units had to evacuate from Moscow. So there was no standard battle, but siege and fights inside the city. I don`t know that russian movie, but I believe, it may not be the best source to learn history from ;) Greets from Poland.

Very nice. I loved the warriors with wings. I just watched the movie called "1612" it is a Russian movie and Russians won at the end. I have a question. At the battle of 1612 did Russians win or loose? I am reading the description and it is talking about some kind of battle, accept Hussars won. Is this the same battle or not? In reality who won?? Greeting from Armenians.
