no, there is no rule in the major league baseball rule book that says the tie goes to the runner. it does however talk about what to do in the event of a tie but it does not clearly state that the tie goes to the runner

actually, when forced to a base, a runner must beat the ball to the base to be safe, just for your info...:-]....great job on your carrier as an umpire, im 18 myself and have been umpiring for almost three years, i plan on going to the academy also, hope you get the gig

You do a GREAT job, Kurt! Thank you for your service to the community. I don't know you, personally, however, I can relate to your love of "The Game". I spent five years in the Minor Leagues from 1976-1980. My last "partner" was Chuck Merriwether. You have a beautiful family. Enjoy umpiring in the vicinity of home. Being there to watch your kids grow up is so much better than being on the road all the time, living out of a suitcase. Trust me on this.

That last play wasn't a tie, he got him. Good call.

From a video stand point, in tv a tape sent in for an opening is nowhere near this long. You have to have your best stuff in the 1st 30 seconds to 1 minute. Not too many people would ever sit and watch an 8+ minute video. IMO, your video shouldn't be any longer than 3-5 minutes. From an umpire stand point, nice job. And yes, I have both worked at a tv station and I am an ummpire. I currently umpire at the High School level for Snowmobile/fun money and play ball in the summer.

Enjoyed your video. good Luck with your career. I work a lot of simular ball to you in a different part of the country. In our part of America a lot of guys go to Evans or other pro schools and after two shots they come home and become good college umps. Unless they burn out from their pro dreams which end because of things they can't control like height. Thanks for sharing. I may have to make one now. LOL
