What does make him the king is that he sold more records than anyone else. He created more excitement than anyone else. Elvis wasn't packaged in a white body either. He came by his love for R&B honestly. Bo and Little Richard were too limited in their styles. Chuck is the only true contender IMO.

Ok Lance. Of course Elvis popularized rock n roll, but that does not make him the king bc: it was largely due to image. He was RnB packaged in a white body, playing to a largely white audience. Not to mention, he was considered attractive to his white fans...girls wanted to date him and guys wanted to be him. The Clash and The Police are 2 of many white bands that popularized reggae to white audiences on a global level. RnB was repackaged for white consumption as "rock"; reggae as "ska".

yes the true king. nothing against elvis but if it wasnt for chuck then we probably would have never heard of elvis. and then of course if richie valens and buddy holly were still alive then who knows who would be called the king?

This is a great video and Chuck Berry continues to be the MAN even after 50 years but how the HELL did early rockers lip-sync like that? I'd lose my mind being forced to do that.
