He appears to me to be playing with a great economy of motion - complete ease and comfort. This is, however, in light of the fact that he holds the sticks (in this example) right near the butt - not as economic as the folcrom. I would think he does this for more power - an effect he is going for. His sticks are damn long, too. I use them sometimes - ProMark all the way!

Dude, some people use different techniques. I know many greats who use techniques looked upon as "wrong", but they have become successful havent they? so dont make such cocky comments without supporting claims.

and in regard to technique, just sounding good is only part of it. there are drummers out there that would probably be my heros if they'd keep their damn pinkies in.

I agree he is really good, but in my opinion his movements don't look natural, like a drummer like vinnie colaiuta, his movements around the kit seem forced but obviously he has worked hard to make it saound good. I don't think he's a bad drummer nor amazing, he plays good..

the technique can't be too bad, otherwise he wouldn't be able to play that fast and exact. watch him playing other dt songs, then you'll see that his technique is just different than the one of many others, but not worse.
