Has anyone had more sex on screen and enjoyed it less than boring Jeremy Irons?

This is one of the best voice-acting performances of an inner voice, I have ever heard! He has got the monotony of that huge inner void just right...Also the string fragment at the end is a perfect musical translation of a broken spirit...

My favourite scene in the film. Louis Malle is a splendid art house film director. Jeremy Irons is at his best when he plays this sort of cold, sombre character with full of stillness. Especially I adore Zbigniew Preisner's soaring strings as the end credit in the film. I don't feel like this is very English film. Somehow, it looks very stylish Parisian or European Art House drama.
