Treo 700 wx Tethering Demo - In work van

Palm Treo 700wx using the Alltel high speed EVDO network. Tethering to my cheap laptop running Vista.I connect and play some mp3's and AAC+ streaming internet radio stations.Then play youtube video without any effort.The connection can get as good as 200k/sec actual throughput when parked. Can stay above 100k/sec at times when driving as long as it stays in EVDO vs. 1X connections.When I first learned about tethering I was using a program called PDANet to connect to my treo for the internet. I did that because most people on forums show that is the way to do this.PDANet SUCKED BALLS!Using Vista I realized all I have to do is have the drivers set up for my Palm and Vista sees it as a modem. Dial #777 and leave name and password blank.I even make a shortcut to my desktop so I can dbl click and it does everything automatically.Make sure you have an unlimited plan that really means unlimited. I heard that people doing this on Verizon got some surprise bills in the mail!Alltel hasn't given me any problems. Sometime I stream over 100 megs of datas just listening to some music when driving to a job. On a long two hour drive it can be hundreds of megs of data.

I'm not sure what you mean? You have the alltel wireless card that you plug into the computer? That should be the easier way to use EVDO cellular internet. But doing it this was with the phone is free. Well I pay for the data plan on the phone. But now that Verizon bought out Alltel, we are probably fucked! Verizon calls their's unlimited too, but they ctually has a 5 gig limit per month! They are the Nazi's of cellular! I probably use way more than that with Alltel.

i have a thing form alltel its like a little oval and i dont like how alltel and sprint u have to buy a internet box that costs like $350 just for it cuz it has a usb drive in it while others have a phone line whats up with that?

You would need some BIG bolt cutters. And most people walking buy don't have 24" long bolt cutters in their pocket. I made the cradle and lock to stop a thief from making an easy snag if it was otherwise just sitting in there. It's been in there for a long time now. I also lower the lid and cover my shit with paperwork. So when I'm away from the van it diesn't even look like it's in there.
