Actually Kinsey measured his own subjects. There is a chance that his subjects may have been slightly larger than average, because they would be the ones most willing to participate, but if you look at his studies they are amazingly varied. 5 is correct though, which means lots of people are longer and lots are shorter. Just like the average male height is 5'9, when not many people are actually 5'9.
