But... It's not THAT complicated. It's music. And very good music, actually.

This is so fucked upatonality... a passing thought of humanity that should be forgotten

A little off topic but Beroff's recording of Messiaen's Vingt regards from the 70s is still in a class of its own, more inside the idiom and the extraordinary world of invention and imagination of this greatest of 20th century piano works.

In Dr. Faust, of Thomas Mann, Adrian Leverkun is the musician that, by means of a pact with the devil, create's the first atonal song, called The Lament of Dr. Faust. The music is described by the narator as the oposit of Bethoven... As an ode to tragedy. You would have to realy read the book to get the magnitude of this coparation, but it's interesting to see these comments picking up the exact same reference.to the record, Adrian Leverkun is a ficctician character from the mind of Mann

Schoenberg's musics are so sad and so.. awful..

His atonal stuff is kind of modernist though. His view of atonality was that it was the system to replace tonality once and for all..

something he had in common with stravinsky! an admiration for the bel canto melodic style..

Oh, man x)You are kind of right, but it is too much to say "awful". C'mon! There is much struggle in his music, but not the struggle with composing, but struggle in the content of music, drama, you know, & stuff.Anyway, just think of 2nd mvt of Pathetique sonata, or 2nd from the 7th symphony, or 2nd from op.90, 3rd from op.109, or.. Oh, c'mon man, Beethoven has piles of beautiful melodies! :)Oh yes, and his "Ode to joy" is a melody that become a hymn of Europe :DTry to hum Schoenberg :))
