i agree with you. it kind of takes the entire effort out of the song and just adds ALOT of reverb onto the guitar.. but oh well.

No, Les Paul sure didn't invent the electric guitar. Not much invention there anyway...just put a mic (pickup) in an acoustic. But Les Paul did build one of the first solid body guitars, trying to get around...feedback. "In 1941, Paul designed and built one of the first solid-body electric guitars (though Leo Fender also independently created his own solid-body electric guitar around the same time, and Adolph Rickenbacher had marketed a solid-body guitar in the 30s)." Les Paul had all his fingers. He was in a car accident and injured his right (picking) elbow, and it was basically bolted at the proper angle to play his guitar. That might what you're referring to. "After the crash, doctors told Paul that they'd have to set his arm such that he would not be able to bend it again. He had them position his arm at a ninety degree angle so he could still play guitar". (From Wikipedia)
