Ukraine Orphanages
This is a video that I shot in April of 2 different orphanages in Ukraine. My church, Valley Bible Church, (in Pleasanton, CA, USA)is looking in to building an orphanage in Ukraine. The state-run orphanages are in a horrible state, lacking food, clothes, and even beds for many of the children. It was a really humbling and sobering experience.

it takes years to adopt healthy children but kids with disabilities take much less. i believe that family only spent a few months.

Actually it's not so easy to adopt a child nowadays. I know a Spanish woman who struggled for years to adopt a Ukrainian child. And after years of waiting, spending her money for trips to Ukraine, she was refused because of the new law(she was single). And I know for sure that the orphanages demand that the children with disabilities be adopted first. But it is also true that the orphanage workers often commit crimes, treating those poor children like beasts.. this is scary..

Thank you for your concern and this video. This is a shame that our government only cares about being reelected..

I'm a dad of six and three of my children have disabilities (all three have autism, the second born has Down's Syndrome, too). We need to change the mindset of Ukranians who need to more like the Poles in the following way: They need to accept their children as they are and not throw them away. In the UK the old Social Orphanages were closed in the 1980s. This needs to happen in the Ukraine. In their place, Special Needs Schools have emerged, with children transported to and from home by bus.

all these children deserve a loving home and it is upsetting how many childless couples in ukraine do not adopt these children. there was this one story of a ukrainian family who adopted a baby with a heart-disease and all the orphanage workers were saying that there's no point adopting him and giving him a surgery that they got better kids and it's better leave him to die....morons

Thanks so much. :) Sorry for being kind of ambiguous with my question. Thank you much for putting this video up. I'm read a statistic that 10-15% of orphans from the Ukraine and Russia commit suicide. Thanks so much for putting this up and getting peoples' attention.

"tears of the saints" by leeland is the first song and "the shadow proves the sunshine" is the second song. The last harp part is from a song called "in a sweater poorly knit" by mewithoutYou. Enjoy.
