before this fire, the buildings was constructed over a famous house, crime scene in 40's that a medic killed his mother and sisters, the house number was "74", an this fire was in 74, now Joelma is caled "Praça da Bandeira"...

Some simblings of mine like my mother saw that Incident in Brazil... She says people jumped from that building!

There was another fire tragedy in the same city two years before this one, in the Andraus building, which was worse in material losses but with less victms (18 deaths against the 180 deaths from Joelma fire).

No influence at all. "Towering..." was made earlier than Joelma tragedy.

The Towering Inferno was inspired by two novels - the "Glass Inferno" and the "Glass tower" ... but it is my guess that the Joelma tragedy certainly had an influence on the production of the Towering Inferno ...

My guess is that early 1970's fire codes in Brazil were rubbish
