SWOD came out on Gull in 1976-- a vastly under-powered effort that went almost unnoticed then. Anyway-- Halford's style fit priest's style of music perfectly. he is an icon. But put him on stage with a guitar and a mike ... and ...it would get pretty ugly for Rob without a wall of sound behind him. DD is a rather pathetic effort , also, IMO Listen to Baez, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Judy Garland , Elvis ...-- if you want to hear some good popular music vocalists...

if you were a heavy metal fan from the 70s you would know a little record by judas priest called sad wings of destiny. the third track dreamer deceiver is a slow song with an absolute classic vocal that shows off three parts of his vocal range. a screamer is phil anselmo from pantera or hetfield from metallica. hitting high notes is not screaming, albeit he does scream but that does not define his vocals. this is an amazing song and both of judas priests versions are amazing, covers tend to suck

Its a Joan Baez site-- be respectful... I have been a HM fan since 1970 with Sabbath. Halford is a screamer-- great for the aggressive material of the band through 1985 ( after which they collapsed)-- but he is limited to that HM genre. Now listen to Joan Baez sing her beautiful song so beautifully.

you really dont know much about mr halfords vocal range. a pedestrian metal vocalist is something like a ronnie james dio not halford. halford has been top three on almost all rock top singers lists, this may be a cover by them but that doesnt mean they havent written amazing music. for proof go to judas priests live acoustic rendition done some 30 yrs after this version, hes still an amzaing singer for 57.

No she is not, they just covered the song.

the lyrics sound as though they were written by a juvenile wannabe...but other than that, the music, the guitars' progression n her voice are really quite good...

I think this may be one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. I find the lyrics very moving. Judas Priest's version kicks amazing loads of ass as well.
