I wouldn't say he was 'gone' but I would assume it is hard to play jazz after being in an institution and being given shock treatments by people that had no idea what the heck they were doing... so sad. They did that to Bird too.

If you look well, you see that Bud Powell begins celebrating his bud Thelonious, smiling to the people and the musicians, playing in the coolest Thelonical way, then gradually the young drummer looses his concentration becoming a little self-indulging, but you can't blame him either (rock & roll was the new appeal) .... a more experienced would have left him alone playing a beautiful coda. A real film, made in Denmark, like if you were there.

Cinco greetings everyone....hermanos y madres!I love Bud Powell's style, especially on ballads, this dude is so soulfulHowever i do like my other pianists too.Rachel Z and Amanda tosoff. Renee Rosnes!I love my contemporary lady pianists.Jodi Proznick has a wonderful jazz thing too.Canadian jazz has a wonderful temperment that appeals to me....my being an older guy!!Bud is 'Woooo

Wow! Superb technique and artistry. Not one unintended note. Even Thelonius Monk said Bud Powell was the only musician who could play his songs right.
