Southern Road Trip - USA

June 2008Photographer Peter Kayafas has long been fascinated by the earthiness of southerners, their hospitality and their hatreds. Peter travels down the South's roads capturing the contradictions of the region.Kayafas says, "Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker...I'd say that Highway 61 is one of the most historically relevant roads in America" /due to the number of artists and musicians who've travelled along it. Peter and travelling companion Maher uncover many incredible moments, from Big Jack Johnson on his porch playing Catfish Blues, to meeting Joanne Bland who took part in the freedom march led by Martin Luther King in the 1960s.

Soon (may be before 2025) This Nation of ASSHOLES will be called a country of beggars. Curse on you pigs. Thriving on the poors money. Nation of corrupt moralless leaders (George W. Bush, Dick & Condi). You all will burn in the fire of Hell.

It's so obvious that guy is from New York, or at least the urban northeast. He says "Look at these people, they're so interesting and strange!" while taking pictures of things familiar to 90% of Americans. OMG football and cheerleaders! What's this strange homecoming queen phenomenon?? A gravel road! A black man playing a guitar! Church! His perspective is so twisted to think that rural America harbors more contradictions than "normal" urban America when in fact the opposite is true.

Southerners, never be ashamed of your heritage. I love this country and many things the world has to offer, but there is no other place in the world like the south. Sure there are crazy Baptists, but there are crazy religions all over America. The majority of Southerners are helpful and friendly, just like the Mexicans in Arizona!!! Unlike the snobs in some other snooty places I won't name here.

Southerners = Chest beating nationalists who prevent America from living up to its true ideals.

Poor as shit, Southerners vote Republican. Let them leave the union and everyone in America will sigh a sigh of relief. Good bye and good riddance. Anyone with a political IQ will be allowed to move north or west. End of story.

Still wainting for a reply jgv1.And New Yorkers don't have cars? That's the basis for a comparison between New York and Mississippi? Hell, you don't need to have a car in New York City! The subway gets you wherever you need to go. They have one of the best mass transit systems in the world. Dolt.
