Jo Stafford - You Belong To Me
YOU BELONG TO MEJo's biggest-selling hit (1952), over 2 million copies. Stayed#1 for 12 weeks! This is the 1963 Capitol Recordsstereo version.--ABOUT THE SONG--(From Wikipedia)You Belong To Me is credited to three writers: Pee Wee King, Redd Stewart, and Chilton Price. Actually Price wrote most of the song, and gave rights to the other two in exchange for publicity. Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart did rearrange the song because it was written as a war song during World War II and changed the title to "You Belong To Me" along with arranging the music. Price gave them equal credit because of the success of an earlier hit which she had written, "Slow Poke (posted here on bmcneese45a)," which had done so well with a similar arrangement that she felt she could do better by ceding partial credit to King and Stewart, rather than trying to publicize the song herself.--LYRICS--See the pyramids along the NileWatch the sun rise on a tropic isleBut just remember, darling, all the whileYou belong to me.See the marketplace in old AlgiersSend me photographs and souvenirsJust remember when a dream appearsYou belong to me.I'll be so alone without youMaybe you'll be lonesome too---and blueFly the ocean in a silver planeSee the jungle when its wet with rainJust remember till you're home againYou belong to meI'll be so alone without youMaybe you'll be lonesome too---and blueFly the ocean in a silver planeSee the jungle when its wet with rainBur remember darling till you're home againThat you belong to me

Sir, This is Jo's Capitol Records version from '58, when she and Paul Weston re-recorded her favorites from her Columbia catalogue. Either way, no one has ever, or will ever, sing it better. She was simply the best. What a time it was: the music of our lives. Wolfsky9

Nobody has EVER done this as well as Jo Stafford. 12 years old when this was #1 and I thought I would marry her when I grew up. Unfortunately for me, she picked Paul Weston. Oh, well; win some, lose some. She was a singer who knew how to sing a song. People forget that the singers of the forties and fifties were very good. They would never win if they competed on "American Idol" because they knew how to sing, not practige the scale on every note of a song.

FYI Ragingwildchild, Bravo is neither feminine nor masculine in the Spanish language. Whether in praise of a man or woman, it is always just Bravo!
