The Federalist Papers reveal the intent of the framers of the Constitution. The Constitution defines the framework of a Republic not a Democracy. As someone earlier in this thread stated, a nation ruled by Law not Men.

As an American, I can say that Pat is absolutely correct. The USA, England, Canada, France, and the rest of the free countries need to kick religion's ass out of their governements!

Healthy societies forge a common ethical substrate whether or not they root it in religion. It's pretty common. In fact, ethics can only exist via cultural convention. How about a couple of refs to the effect that religion is necessary to ethical behavior? Even just one ref?

Lol, do you know how much time and space I would need to cite that stuff, not worth it. I do agree that ethics does exist outside religion, but the problem with that is: Everyone looks at things differently, what is ethical to one person, may not be to another. So who determines what is ethical? I guess I'm going to have to say what is ethical and you follow, OK?

Can you cite your publications? What were your research methods? I urge you not to forget, moreover, that ethics exist outside of religion. Religion is defined by a belief in the supernatural, not by a belief in moral behavior. To think so is to misunderstand the distinction between atheism and religion.
