Why did Clint Eastwood say "This is a big surprise?" If memory serves I thought that Spielberg was the favorite that year to win. I thought he was the prediction of most. Anyone else remember?

God what a great guy. Truly my hero.Just a good soul, a good human being, who truly deserved this award and the recognition he reserves still today for the work he has accomplished. Brilliant.
