If you watch the part when Goku sleeps on his back, the dragonballs go inside of Goku's body. Making him and Shenron one. So Goku is immortal. Hence, him waiting for the time when he is needed again on Earth.

the dragonball series where the best anime follow up shows i ever seen, many people hate on gt and i can understand that but for me all 3 the series where fantastc because it shows how a young boy found in the woods turned into a eternal hero and i'm happy and glad i had the chance to watch them all and i enjoyed all of the totals 493 episodes
