A summary of the song:The daughter of an icelandic rancher is ill. A servant of the family tries to cure her with rune stones in her bed. But she becomes iller. Then comes Egil, a skald and runemaster. The father of the girl asks him, whether he could help. Egil examines the daughter and subsitutes the "wrong" rune stones through the right ones. The girl becomes healthy and her father is now an ally and friend of Egil.

Sort of, but i would rather say that East-Norse and West-Norse was two dialects of the same language, just like Swedish and Norwegian is now. I know, Swedish and Norwegian aren't officially the same language but they just as well could be.

Hehe, yeah, it's Norse too, but from what I can recall being taught in school, already during the Viking Age, there was a distinction between the language of the Norwegians/Icelandic and Swedes/Danes. If I'm not quite mistaken, the language sung in this song is the Norse called "West-Norse" or "West-Nordic", and the one spoken by Swedes and Danes was called "East-Norse/Nordic". But anyways, no one knows what a Viking-conversation sounded like anyway. :P

What would you call the language spoken by Swedish vikings if not old Norse then?
