Daniel...if kicking is the FIRST thing you are tought, you are being tought incorrectly. EVERY strike, and I mean every fuckin' single strike BEGINS and ENDS in your stance. If you are not tought how to fall back on your stance, you are gonna get your shit rocked. Stance teaches you how to shift, pivot, shuffle, and slide your feet, keep your balance, strike and defend effectively. THEN you branch out on HOW to attack. Master the square, angle, and southpaw stance and you will dominate.

I guess knees and elbows are key cos they are pretty much exclusive to muaythai in the way they are used, but all techniques count, leg kicks are also very important, and they hurt... lots.

Government Propaganda is so correct. Trust me. The movements of Muay Thai are so refined. The BEST starting point is mastering your stance and footwork (the beat/rhythm).

The single most important technique in Muay Thai is you're stance. After you master you're stance, balance and timing is key. As far as attacks your basic shit is gonna include punches and kicks. You will later branch out onto elbow strikes, knees, and more technical punches and kicks. Defense is HUGE, make sure to always protect your chin and raise your legs to protect your core when being struck - hence why STANCE is the single most important technique to master.

i think the basics are elbow and knee strikes

Question from an amatuer:What is the single most important technique in Muay Thai? The basics of the basics, if you will.
