It was the Kyoto Protocol, and the United States had already signed it. It was simply a ratification, and everyone made such a big deal over basically nothing...

I don't think there is an excessive amount of anti-Americanism in the EU. I think the politicians/population of EU want to show that they are independent and do not follow the orders given to them by the USA. I think one of the most powerful shows of this was in some summit on global warming somewhere in Asia (I think) where the EU threatened USA with not showing up to a US hosted summit on global warming, unless the US would do something at this summit. Hehe. I can't remember the details.

I'm not generalizing Europeans, I'm just stating a fact that there is anti-Americanism in the EU. I used to live in Russia, and I lived in Newcastle/London England for a little bit, so I am quite European as well. In fact, my whol efamily still basically lives in Moscow...
